Linking memory segment 0D0212…
We start off back at our room, prepared to observe the manor house of Tavin Thora, ostensibly the leader =OR A LEADER, AT LEAST= of House Tarkanan. Our initial plan is to have Zakar observe the house through the eyes of the messenger doll, but both Drizzle and Skye become bored with the wait and depart to add their own eyes to the surveillance effort.
There is an unusual amount of freight being moved into the house, and a number of carriages marked with the sigils of important Sharnian houses are parked outside. Apparently, there is some kind of party planned for the evening, and the sheer amount of movement outside implies that it will be a large one. It seems as if we have found our way in…
Drizzle visits a Sivis outpost to obtain a set of invitations allow us to attend =AS WELL AS TO RENEW ITS GNOMISH ECCENTRICITIES=. It also is given information on the security setup of the house, which includes magically active gargoyles and a well-protected landing deck for skycoaches and deliveries.
Zakar and I discuss something that Zakar refers to as the Harbinger Prophecy, triggered by my utterance of the words that we spoke on the Day of Mourning – “…No quarter granted from the coming storm…”. Zakar believes that those words are part of the larger Draconic Prophecies, and that we should hire an Inquisitive to help us track down more information on it, or possibly talk to House Sivis, who may have encountered references to the Harbinger elsewhere. Obviously the dragons of Argonessen would be an even better source, but significantly more difficult to pursue. =ENHANCEMENT: SUCH A PURSUIT WOULD HAVE >92% ODDS OF OUR DESTRUCTION=
I make contact with Gadden Bryn through one of our old Sending Stones, and it is surprised to hear from us =OBVIOUSLY=. It warns us to keep Tani hidden, as the Kalashtar have become very unpopular in the city recently. It is interested in meeting with us and promises to arrive for such in 5 days, which works well for us since we cannot leave the city. We agree on a passphrase to secure future conversations and part ways for now.
Skye and Drizzle both return and report their findings, and then Twik burst in through Drizzle’s shadow and tells us that the manor is filled with what he refers to as “shadow monsters”. It is oddly interested in us destroying these monsters, and we given a half-hearted promise for now. Of course, we hope that we can get through the mansion undetected. =STEALTH LIKELY TO BE INSUFFICIENT – PREPARE WEAPONRY FOR IMPENDING CONFLICT= We keep our plans intact – we will penetrate the manor under the guise of guests, then either get close to Thora or search private areas for incriminating evidence.
During our initial reconnaissance of the party, Skye sees a door that radiates power. =ANALYSIS OF DOOR REVEALS NOTHING – UNCLEAR WHETHER SKYE IS LYING OR WHETHER ITS VISION IS CORRUPTED. BOTH OPTIONS…DISTURBING= In the meantime, I inquire =MORE DIRECTLY= as to the large shipments entering the house and discover that a large quantity of meat has been brought into the house and taken into the wine cellar. Zakar enters the restroom and casts a divination ritual to try to point us in the proper direction. And presumably discharges organic waste while it is casting. =SCHEDULE RESEARCH INTO EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENT OF ORGANIC ENERGY PROCESSING FACILITIES=
The ritual points us to the same door that Skye has an unnatural fascination with, so we make our move and sneak through, using a combination of my fate-predicted deception and everyone else’s stealth. My personal lack of subtlety necessitates finding an alternate route, which I do by triggering a panic in the kitchen and then entering the wine cellar.
The wine cellar itself is swarming with shadows and tainted with the odor of meat and blood. The shadows prove hostile =THEY ALWAYS DO=, and I am forced to fight them off. Fortunately, they prove to be less sturdy than the head of my hammer, and are quickly dispersed.
=ADDENDUM: THE REMAINDER OF THE GROUP HAS RELATED TO ME THE TALES OF THEIR OWN ENTRY HALL, WHICH INVOLVED AN EVIL WARDROBE AND ITS SWARM OF HANGER MINIONS. TRULY, WOE BE TO THOSE WHO DISTURB A RACK OF SHADOW CLOTHING IN THIS PLACE=
