Our two separate groups make their way down their respective tunnels, and we finally come together =WITH NO FURTHER SHADOW AND/OR PANTALOON ATTACKS= in a central chamber with six halls branching off of it. All of the passages possess the same visible attributes, including the two that we passed into the room through.
A closer inspection by Skye and Drizzle yields more details. The scurrying sounds that I heard along my approach here are audible down three of the passages, and one of the halls smells stronger of blood than the others. We make our way down that passage. =CHANCE OF ENCOUNTER WITH RAVENOUS BEASTS: HIGH.=
The hallway eventually comes to an end at the top of a spiral staircase, which we descend, Skye silently taking the lead. The darkness grows gradually more oppressive, until the feeble light that we allow to illuminate our way is swallowed up almost completely. At some point down the stairs a landing opens out over a deep, mist-filled chamber, but we skip it for now and continue to the bottom.
The stairs terminate in another hallway that continues onward to a hub, very similar to the one that we just descended from. So similar, in fact, that it contains the same markings that we left to indicate the hallways that we had entered from. =CONJECTURE: SPATIAL ANOMALY OR OVERLAPPING REALITIES PRESENT. COMMONALITY OF THESE OCCURRENCES IS BECOMING NORMAL…=
One difference between here and our origin becomes obvious when Drizzle lights a torch and the shadows surrounding us flee screaming deeper into the surrounding passages. And Skye shrinks back away from it, its normally pale skin appearing gray and sickly. =INTENSIFY WATCH OVER THE CHANGLING. IT MIGHT BE… CORRUPTED. IT… SHE… SHOULD BE… MUST… ZZZZZZZZZT=
After some exploration and deduction, we infer that this hub and its surroundings are a mirror of the realm that we came from, and appears to be located in the shadow realm. Or a shadow realm, at least. Following that thought, we pass through the analogs of the hallways that we entered the upper chamber through, and make our way up to a shadowy reflection of the manor house.
=DELETE ALL INFORMATION REGARDING KICKING THROUGH SHADOW WARDROBE… COMPLETE=
Back up in the courtyard of the manor house, we are surrounded by the mostly-invisible spectres of the party goers, Skye alone seems able to see them without difficulty, and so it makes its way through the crowd, looking for Tavin Thora to spy upon it. Unfortunately, this act proves… anticlimactic, as our host appears able to see into the shadow manor as well as Skye can see out of it, and it is not amused by our intrusion. The Tarkanin mistress issues a series of threats to Skye warning it of its impending doom as the hands/claws/miscellenea of its “security forces”. Apparently it believes that we do not know what we are dealing with.
=WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE DEALING WITH. AND HOW TO DEAL WITH IT. IT WILL LEARN THIS VERY SOON.=
Skye returns to the group, looking somewhat shaken. =UNCLEAR WHETHER AFFECTED BY THORA’S THREATS OR… SOMETHING ELSE… POSSIBLY… SOMEONE ELSE…= Since the alarm has been raised, we decide to retreat from the shadow manor and its questionable defensibility, returning to the upper hub beneath the manor and the presumed safety of being not-in-a-shadow-realm-that-is-surely-preferential-to-Tarkanin-security.
Our expectations are met when a horde of monstrous displacer beasts thunder out of the hallways surrounding the hub and attempt to secure our organs for later consumption.
=MASSIVE QUANTITIES OF MEAT AND BLOOD EXPLAINED. AND THEY SEEM TO WANT SECONDS.=
