Prior to commencing interrogation on the captive, we discuss our situation, with a particular focus on our likely foes. So far, we appear to be hunted by the Daelkyr and their minions, the Inspired, and House Thuranni (added to our list by Zakar), with potential duplication in the Houses’ hiring entities, if any exist. =SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS: POTENTIAL ALLIANCES BETWEEN ANY OF THESE ENTITIES REPRESENTS A GRAVE THREAT TO LIFE ON EBERRON=
We finally wake and then question our prisoner, with Zakar threatening it with a horrific deva curse. =ENQUEUE RESEARCH TASK AT NEXT LIBRARY RE DEVA CURSES= It cracks relatively easily, claiming to be just a hired assassin =SKEPTICISM REGISTERED ON ALLY SKYE= employed by House Tarkanin =ADDING TARKANIN TO LIST= and hired by Tavin Thora. We recognize Thora’s name as that of a wealthy socialite, the kind of person who would have no connection to a disreputable house of thugs with delusions of grandeur.
Its description of its orders is perplexing. Supposedly, it was given vague descriptions of Skye and myself, along with a location to monitor. This is not the first time it has had orders of this type, and we have occasionally been the subject of these orders before, even when we were not physically present in the city. It is unclear how Tarkanin would have information on our whereabouts, since we had not even planned to be at this location ourselves.
During the interrogation, the Tarkanite also mentions that Tarkanin has access to a Doctor who has been performing modifications on its members. It is unclear whether this is related to the Doctor that we faced previously. =MEMORY EXTRACTION: THAT DOCTOR IS DEAD. PROJECTED OUTCOME: THIS ONE WILL BE AS WELL, SOON=
We knock out the thug and dump the unconscious body far away from our inn, then settle in for the night. During the evening, both Skye and Drizzle once more have restless sleep. Zakar looks at them and believes that it is due to the presence of the manifest zone around Sharn, and that our new status as Planeswalkers might make us sensitive to such planar breaches. Regardless, it appears that nothing can be done about it for now, other than further observation. =SCHEDULING FURTHER OBSERVATION=
In the morning, our first order of business is to clear our names with the city watch, and we head to the local precinct. One of the Inquisitors interviews us under the influence of a “Zone of Truth”, as it puts it, to pressure us. This is not appreciated, but understandable. Drizzle answers most of the question and bends the truth just enough to get us set free, although we are commanded to not leave the city. During the course of the interrogation, it is revealed that the body of the assassin that Skye killed never made it back to the precinct on the skycoach that we had been riding in. This is interesting to both us and the Inquisitor, and before we leave it slips us a note with a time and location on it, presumably to discuss this discrepancy further. =OR TO FINISH US OFF FOR KNOWING TOO MUCH. CAUTION WILL BE APPLIED=
Our second order of business is to see the items that we have lying around, and the task is assigned to Drizzle, who not only manages to sell the first set of artifacts, but also makes a contact in the Wayfarer’s Society – a dwarf named Khaghore Rhadahth. He promises to purchase the remainder of our items once he has confirmed the authenticity of the initial set. =AUTHENTICITY HAS ALREADY BEEN CONFIRMED – BEGIN ANALYZING LOCAL EQUIPMENT FOR POTENTIAL UPGRADES=
Finally, we make our way to Tavin Thora’s estate to begin reconnaissance. Skye attempts to distract onlookers =AT THE EXPENSE OF MY DIGNITY=, while Drizzle deploys Twik and our messenger doll to watch over strategic locations. Then, we return to our inn to monitor the building.
